The LTC course
This class is required to obtain your Texas License to Carry permit. The class includes 4-6 hours of classroom instruction, a 25-question written test, and a 50 round shooting qualification (shooting skills or teaching you how to shoot is NOT part of the 4-6 hours).
Classroom instruction is to teach you the laws of when you may and may not carry your handgun, when you may and may not use it to defend yourself, your responsibilities regarding safe storage of handguns, non-violent dispute resolution and basic handgun use and safety.
You will need your valid Identification/ Driver license, a pen and notepad, a handgun and 50 rounds of ammunition to qualify with. If you do not have a handgun available to use, we offer gun rentals that come with ammunition to qualify with. Gun rental pricing is $30 dollars.
We strongly suggest you bring your own eye and ear protection, and if you do not have that available to you then we offer new safety glasses and ear protection for 5 dollars.
Cost of the class, range fees and all paperwork is $95 dollars per person.
Classes are offered 6 days a week for individuals or groups. Contact us for dates and times.
The Freedom Special:
Class for 2 people $150 - Both people must be registered and pre-paid at the same time.
Private LTC classes can be scheduled with you any day of the week at anytime that works for you. Private classes are fun for families or groups of friends. Contact us for costs, details and to schedule a private LTC class.
Basic Handgun / Handgun 101
This 2-hour course is held every week, on various days. We also offer private introduction classes that can be scheduled around what works for you. This class is designed with a classroom portion and a range portion. In the classroom we cover gun safety and the fundamentals of shooting a handgun. The handgun does not mean you are protected! Your skill under stress determines how well that handgun can help you to not be a victim.
After the classroom portion we go on the range and work on skills to operate the handgun and on how the handgun operates. We do shooting drills designed to get repetition on everything a handgun does and to learn the importance of site alignment and site picture as well as the foundation of all shooting- the proper grip!

The cost is $100 for the class, and you will need 50 rounds of ammunition.
LEVEL 2 UNARMED SECURITY OFFICER TRINING COURSE
This course is required by the Texas Department of Public Safety-Regulatory Services Division to anyone wishing to work in the private security industry. In accordance with Chapter 1702 of the Occupations Code and DPS-RSD rules, this course must be completed, in order to receive a Level 2 (unarmed) license.
This is a self-study course and done online. We do offer an instructor to answer any questions or explain areas that you want to understand better.
The Level 2 course introduces you to the industry; will advise you on the laws and regulations you must follow and provides you with a solid foundation and starting point of what private security is all about. You will be given instruction, regulations, procedures, and operations of a security officer, report writing, and responding to emergencies, among other topics. Upon successful completion of the class, students will receive a state approved certificate of completion.

Level 3 Commissioned Security Officer Training (Armed Security officer):
We offer Level 3 training weekly We only provide IN PERSON AND HANDS ON TRAINING! ONLINE TRAINING MAKES YOU YOUR OWN INSTRUCTOR AND DOES NOT PREPARE YOU FOR REAL WORLD SITUATIONS.
The Level III (Level 3), security officer training class is what you take if you are looking to carry a firearm as a Commissioned Armed Security Officer in Texas. This security course, as required by the State of Texas Private Security Bureau, will include a classroom session and a firearms range qualification.
Our Level 3 Security Class is taught by experienced Master instructors. This means that you'll have an Instructor with hands-on knowledge and actual work experience teaching you all the material. Our classes are interesting, engaging and interactive.
General Course Description
Required Equipment:
For the classroom portion of your training, it is recommended that you bring a notebook or notepad, pen or pencil for note taking.
During the firearms range portion of the class, you are required to qualify with a handgun. The handgun must be at least a .38 caliber or larger – we recommend a 9 mm semi-automatic. Bring your handgun You'll need 50 rounds of ammunition (you provide your own ammo), hearing and eye protection for the range.
Important note, if you qualify with a revolver, while on duty as a Security Officer, you will only be allowed to carry a revolver. If you qualify with a semi-automatic, while on duty working as a Security Officer, you may carry a semi-automatic or revolver. You may also qualify with a shotgun. Shotgun qualification is highly recommended, but it is optional. There are extra range fees associated with shotgun use.
You must be Level 2 Security Officer Certified. 18 years and older. If you do not currently have your level 2 you can complete that with us as well.
Price/Schedule
$200 dollars for the 45 Hour course - Including range fees. You provide your own gun and ammo. If you do not have your own gun/ammo, you may rent one at the range for $50
The majority of security students start on Mondays and graduation is on Saturday. However, you can start on any day and must complete 6 days/45 hours to graduate.
LEVEL 4 Personal Protection Officer Course:
This course is offered each month. Class time is 8:30 Am to 3:30 PM Contact us to get the dates this class is available.
This course covers the required State-Approved curriculum required by The Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Bureau in order to be credentialed as a personal protection officer. This course meets the requirements for Level IV Training in accordance with Chapter 1702 of the Texas Occupations Code.
A bodyguard is a person who protects someone from personal assault, kidnapping, assassination, loss of confidential information, or other threats. Bodyguards are typically armed and have expertise in unarmed combat, tactical driving, and first aid. However, the most important skill for a bodyguard to possess is the ability to assess a situation and decide how best to respond to minimize danger to his client. Most important public figures are protected by several bodyguards. Lower risk principals are generally accompanied by a single bodyguard, who may double as the principal’s driver. Higher profile celebrities, billionaires, or at-risk dignitaries usually require a detail 2 to 4 of personal protection officers.
This course will teach you the concepts of personal protection, dignitary protection, executive protection, and celebrity protection.
This is a 15-hour Texas Department of Public Safety – Private Security Bureau’s (PSB) Level IV Personal Protection Officer (PPO) course.
· It fulfills the State of Texas training requirements of the PSB for a Personal Protection Officer License.
· Must have or be applying for a level 3 commission
· Must be 21
· Must be employed or seeking employment with a security company.
· A psychological evaluation is required by the state- information and referral for this is discussed during class.

Classroom instruction and range qualification takes place at several different locations in the Dallas, Texas area.
Available Firearms
The Handgun Academy of Texas provides handgun rentals and exclusively use Glock handguns. We also have shotgun rentals and use Remington, and Mossberg shotguns.
